5 tips for writing a dating profile that inspires

Posted on October 25, 2021 by 60+Club

Five tips for writing a dating profile that inspires 💻😊

When it comes to creating your dating profile, you want it to be inspired and capture your essence to find a companion interested in the real you. We get that it can become overwhelming, to the point where you doubt it’s the right way forward for you.

It’s natural to be uncertain because writing a profile can be difficult no matter your age or how well you can write. While some agencies will guide you through the process, we suggest you stop doubting your worth and follow our top tips for writing inspired dating profiles.

Age Doesn’t Make You Invisible

Before we begin looking at what will help you write the right profile, you need to understand that you’re not invisible. While getting back into the dating game can make you feel exposed and heighten your emotions, it’s actually a time where you can be genuinely you and confidently do so.

Whether you are 60 or closer to 90, it’s normal to want companionship and having already lived a good portion of your life, it’s now time to take control, set the boundaries and be confident in who you are.

Top Tips for Best Profiles

It’s time to demystify the writing of inspired dating profiles by giving you some of our best tips for letting potential companions know what you’re looking for.

Tip 1: Tell A Story
Rather than just listing a range of facts about yourself, capture your potential companion’s eye by telling a story. Stories allow you to get excited about what you love and give people a unique insight into your personality and passions.

Tip 2: Avoid Cliches
On most profiles, you will note that people write ‘watching movies’ and ‘reading books’ as things they like to do. These are cliche when it comes to writing a profile and will look like everyone else’s. Find new and exciting ways to share what you love, such as “My favourite book is…”, “The movie that made me laugh the most is…”

Tip 3: Be Proud of You
It’s easy to fall into the trap of fudging your age a little or using an old picture to make yourself younger than you are; this is one of the biggest mistakes you can make.

Be proud of who you are and be you from the outset, meaning, let your profile reflect who you really are. Starting out a potential relationship on dishonesty will impact the capacity for trust and affect how you present yourself when and if you end up committing to each other.

When you’re honest, present yourself as you are and share your life experience; these are more attractive qualities than what you think they want you to be.

Tip 4: Catch the Readers Attention
If a potential partner is reading dating profiles, it can become sameish and boring when everyone writes the same type of thing. We recommend catching the readers attention by talking about possibilities, asking questions and thinking outside the box.

Tip 5: Passions NOT Hobbies
Hobbies are one of those words that need phasing out when it comes to writing dating profiles. Listing what you love to do cannot be summed up in a list, and using the term passions sounds much more engaging and exciting.

It can be overwhelming to be bold in your profile, however sharing your experiences, even if they’re a little quirky, will attract the type of person best suited to you. So, instead of saying you like bushwalking, talk about one of your favourite bushwalking experiences.

Making Connections

Now is the time to make those connections with fun, honest and inspired profiles that are true to you. You don’t need to be an experienced writer to engage a potential new companion; all you need is to think outside the box a little by being truly yourself – quirks and all.

Whether you’re signing up to a dating website or connecting through other online services, let your story count by firstly believing in yourself and being proud of who you are so you can share what inspires you.
